Why a Sedentary Lifestyle can Make it Difficult to Lose Weight?

 A sedentary lifestyle is the main cause of weight gain and obesity. Spending most of the day in front of the computer or TV, or just being idle somewhere makes it nearly impossible to lose weight, even if diet is responsible for about 70% of weight loss. But if you don't exercise, dieting alone won't help you lose weight.

1- Your metabolism slows down when you lead a sedentary lifestyle. Six small meals, one every three hours, will boost your metabolism a bit, but if you want to lose weight, you need to get active. Physical activity speeds up your metabolism. A sedentary lifestyle slows it down.

2 - Spending most of the day on your butt makes you more likely to eat convenience snacks. It's much easier to grab food to keep yourself busy or to feel like you're doing something. But that's unconscious eating and you never know how much you've really eaten, which makes losing weight very difficult.

3- Your body doesn't burn calories and fat when you lead a sedentary lifestyle. While we do burn a certain amount of calories even sitting at a desk, it's not nearly enough to put a dent in your weight. Rather the opposite is true, because even if you don't exercise or exercise, you're still eating, and probably more than you should.

4 - If you don't exercise, you lose muscle. The more sedentary you live, the less muscle you probably have. Muscles are important for burning fat. The more muscle you have, the less fat you are likely to have and the easier it is to lose weight. A sedentary lifestyle leads to muscle loss and makes losing weight much more difficult than it needs to be.

If you want to lose weight more easily, you need to replace your sedentary lifestyle with an active one. Instead of spending your free time with friends, you suggest going for a bike ride or a walk in the forest. Instead of watching another boring episode of a TV show you don't even like, pop in a workout DVD and get moving. Stop surfing the internet and walk your dog instead. Get active so you can lose weight.
